What sparked your interest in painting?
A Tole Shop opened and I decided to check it out. Had some free time, liked what I saw
and signed up for Beginner Classes (6 classes) before I left. This was 1983.

Do you remember the first piece you painted?
I think it was a daisy. Jayne Kiger (deceased HOOT member) was a teacher at the
shop and the classes were taught in oils. (Acrylics were just surfacing in the Tole world).
I still remember trading in a vehicle that had dried Cad Yellow Medium oil paint on the
back seat!

What are your favorite surface, medium and subject to paint?
Favorite surface is wood. I have also started painting rocks for fun.
My first love of mediums is oils but I do a lot of painting in acrylics now.
I paint a lot of Zhostovo pieces having painted many times with Slava, Misha, and
Tatiana from Russia. I also paint many Santas. Each Christmas I paint a Santa
ornament for my son and grandchildren for their trees.

Is there a project you still want to tackle?
Yes! I have an almost painted Zhostovo style green plate I painted with Misha. Note: I
am not fond of green backgrounds but every time it shows its face, I add a few more
strokes and put it away for another time. It has become an ‘inside joke’ between one of my painting friends and me. Someday maybe I will finish it!
