Heart
of Ohio Tole (HOOT)
is a chapter of the international
organization: the Society of Decorative Painters
(SDP). A unique feature of HOOT and SDP is teaching
decorative painting in a
step-by-step process. We share the methods of all media (oil,
acrylic, and watercolor) ranging from folk art, faux finishing, still
life, and florals on functional pieces to canvases.Have you ever thought that painting would be fun, but told yourself that you didn’t have any talent? Decorative Painting could be for you. HOOT is excited to announce free four-week painting classes in oils and acrylics. Because of the systematic method used to teach this art form, you do not even need to know how to draw! These classes will be taught by two experienced artists, Diane Eyestone in oils and Helen Maurer in acrylics. The classes, project, and paints will be supplied free of charge, courtesy of the Heart of Ohio Tole, an affiliated chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters.
Helen has been painting for more that 40 years and been teaching for the past 25 years. All of her beginner classes are taught in acrylics, her preferred medium. The classes will focus on the techniques needed to make objects appear round and how to create depth in a painting. These techniques will be taught while painting a floral design. Helen will loan students brushes and other supplies. If you wish to continue with painting, a supply kit will be available for purchase. The oil classes will be taught by Diane Eyestone, who has been painting for 20 years. Having studied with several Master Decorative Artists, focusing on color theory, she teaches classes at HOOT Chapter meetings and workshops exclusively in oils. These classes will concentrate on the four basic shapes that all things are composed of: sphere, cube, cylinder and cone. There will be an emphasis on blending, color mixing, surface preparation and finishing. These classes will take place at the HOOT office in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
