LEARN
TO
PAINT!

| Heart of Ohio Tole (HOOT) is a chapter of the international organization known as the Society of Decorative Painters (SDP). A unique feature of HOOT and SDP is teaching decorative painting in a step-by-step process. We share the methods of all media (oil, acrylic, and watercolor) ranging from folk art, faux finishing, still life, and florals on functional pieces to canvases. And we have fun doing it!! |
| At
our bi-monthly chapter
meetings, HOOT offers “A
Taste of Tole.”
Come spend the day with
us. Learn more about HOOT at our morning business
meeting.
After lunch, our Taste of Tole instructor, Helen Maurer, shares the
very basics of decorative painting. Helen teaches how to base
coat a piece to get started, then how to trace and transfer a pattern
or design, and painting with techniques such as side loading or
floating the paint. The instruction is informal and
free.
Bring your friends. Join us at our next chapter meeting. |
| After lunch at each HOOT
chapter meeting, we have a painting
program. Meet our members and learn more about HOOT at our
morning business meeting. Then, be our guest to sit and paint
among our members with the scheduled teacher of the day.
Projects
for these programs are varied. Recently, we have had a
painting
program using colored pencils and another with mixed media. Join us at
our next chapter meeting. Select "Calendar" from our navigation pane for information about our next meeting. |
| Each August, HOOT hosts a decorative painting convention at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Many events happen all week long, from art show to painting demonstrations by national teachers. You can register for the convention to take beginner’s classes or just join us to visit our trade show, which for three days is open to the public. The show is full of vendors and teachers offering supplies, projects, and even some “make it and take it” projects. For more information on HOOT’s convention, select "Convention" from our navigation pane. |
| HOOT also offers its members special seminars with national teachers to hone skills and continue to learn. For more information about HOOT, please visit the other pages on our site. Contact information for HOOT is on the “About” page from our navigation pane. |
