HOOT Spotlights... Peggy Gerard

2009 Convention Chair

Peggy Gerard

I am a retired accountant and live in the country north of Sunbury, Ohio with my husband Joe and our latest collection of unwanted cats that have appeared at our door. We have five grown children and thirteen grandchildren.

I always feel that my time is well spent when I am in the process of creating something.

I am one of those people who can’t sit still and I am always stitching, painting, drawing, etc. I love folk art and primitives and it was a natural gravitation to start my own business in 1982 and begin to sell my “wares” at trade shows, art fairs and local boutiques. I love to work with wool and appliqué penny rugs, table mats and wall hangings. It is easy to take stroke work patterns and adapt the shapes and curves into striking pieces that have a “folk art” look to them.

4 Santas by Peggy
I began to paint in 1996 or 1997 when I took a few classes at the “Calico Cupboard” to offset the 60-70 hour weeks of working in professional accounting. It was cheaper than therapy and something I had always been interested in trying. I love to paint Santa Clauses and one of the first pieces I finished and did not give away to one of my family members was Elaine Thompson’s “Four Santas Stocking Holder” that we still display every Christmas.

I joined HOOT in 2003 and became actively involved in the Chapter in 2004 when I worked at the “Leap Into Painting” convention. It was one of the most stimulating and exciting weeks I had ever spent. So many artists, so many classes, so little time! So I took the “leap” with both feet and have worked every Convention since that time on the monitor crew, as an assistant treasurer, assistant chair and this year as the Chair of the 29th annual Convention “Painting Up A Storm”. I have also served the Chapter as First Vice President for two years.

There is absolutely “No Place Like HOOT” and if you are reading this website, YOU are invited to one of the best painting experiences in the world the week of August 10-16, 2009.

There are approximately 200 classes in every medium and skill level taught by the some of the best known teachers in the Decorating Painting industry. There is an expansive Exhibit Sales Hall, an Art Show, a Gift Shop, Frees Demos, New “Tablescapes” and “Virtual Rooms” and more. There are enough fresh and exciting ideas to keep you stimulated until next year!
