Nancy Bateman is known for her heirloom quality of painting on antique tinware. Although she is a 29-year resident of Lancaster, Ohio, her art training began in South Bend, Indiana. She is a long-standing member of the Society of Decorative Painters (SDP) (formerly known as National Society of Tole and Decorative Painters [NSTDP]) and the affiliate chapter Heart of Ohio Tole (HOOT) in Columbus, Ohio. She became a Certified Decorative Artist in 1984. Nancy has served as the HOOT convention art director for four conventions.

She has been a featured artist numerous times in painting magazines. Her home as well as her personal collection was high-lighted in the Decorative Artists’ Workbook and Designs for Decorative Living. In 1996, Nancy was commissioned to paint the Past SDP President’s Award donation to the Binney & Smith Paint Corporation’s traveling exhibit. The SDP has chosen Nancy’s work to be given to past Presidents of the United States. More recently in 2004, the SDP publication, The Decorative Painter, requested Nancy to paint a document box to be presented on their behalf to First Lady Laura Bush.

Nancy is a supporter of the Decorative Arts Collection (DAC) museum located in Atlanta, Georgia by both donating and selling her work through the organization. In 1995 she was awarded first place in the DAC prestigious juried competition with her Tulips on Table. She was one of several decorative artists asked to contribute to the Collection of Roses and The Santa Book, both coffee table books, published by the DAC.

In 2002 Nancy was asked to represent American Folk Artwork by entering her work in the Japanese Exhibition Painting Gallery of the World, sponsored by Nihon Vogue in Tokyo, Japan.

She sells under the name of Nancy’s Fancys. For the last 18 years, she has displayed and sold her work at the HOOT annual convention in Columbus as well as the last several years through the DAC at the SDP annual convention.
