HOOT
Ambassador
My
husband Stephen and I are retired and live in a wooded
area
outside of Mount Vernon. We own eight acres, five of which is
in
high timber. Our driveway is about 400 feet long with the house
surrounded by tall trees. We have planted some clusters of trees with
perennial flower gardens. Flowers were my favorite painting subjects.
We
enjoy cruising the Western Carribean each year where we tour the
Mayan ruins in Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.
I
have a son in Edinboro, Pa. where he and his wife operate a fish
farm. My daughter lives in Chattanooga, Tennessee (with a son in
college and a daughter in high school) and is beginning to enjoy
watercolor painting. I hope to have her attend our Convention.
My
formal career training includes a
B.A. plus a M.A. equivalent in
Home Economics and B.A. in Art. I attended the Indiana University of
Pennsylvania and New York University. While teaching high school Home
Economics for 28 years I also taught Millinery Adult Education classes
at Indiana University. During that time I planned and narrated numerous
(25) Millinery Fashion Shows throughout Western Pennsylvania with 2 to
5 models showing my hats and bridal wear creations.
After
retirement, I thought I would like to try decorative painting.
The list of classes at The Cultural Arts Center interested me, so I
enrolled in Drawing and Landscape Painting. I also took classes in
Calligraphy and Painting at the 'Calico Cupboard'
(in Westerville)
with Lynn Zezech where I decided acrylic painting was my medium. Lynn
had a booth at the 1988 HOOT Convention. I was her assistant
and joined HOOT that year.
For
many years l have enjoyed working at the Convention in many
capacities. Macular Degeneration has limitied my ability to
enjoy painting, but I have been fortunate to work and paint with
wonderful ladies at HOOT who have graciously chosen me to be the HOOT
Ambassador
for the past several years. In this capacity I hope to convey the
deep appreciation of our members for our Chapter's goal of providing
every opportunity to enhance our talents.
I
will always be dedicated to HOOT.
