I
have always done arts and
crafts starting in my childhood. I got into decorative
painting by way of ceramic lessons. I began taking ceramic
classes when my children were babies. I sorely needed some adult time
and some creative time.
My ceramic teacher began teaching Tole Painting. I was
fascinated by the bright colors. At that time everyone
learned to paint in oils, acrylics weren't on the scene yet.
I didn't get to paint much outside of class because my
children would get into my projects which is not good when you are
painting in oils!
Eventually I took classes from Diane Capoccia and learned to paint with
acrylics. I had found my medium!
None of my friends or neighbors painted and I joined HOOT so I could
meet people who understood what I was doing. Joining the chapter
completely changed my life. I guess you could say it became
my life.
I began teaching in a craft store and discovered I really enjoyed
teaching beginners. It is such a pleasure to introduce people
to painting. Most students get hooked which pleases me
because painting is such an important part of my life and I want it to
be the same for others.
Presently
I am
teaching a class at our chapter meetings for guests who
have never painted but always thought they would like to try.
They learn to basecoat, trace, and transfer patterns and get
introduced to floating while completing a pansy on a 6 x 6 canvas.
There is no cost to the student for this experience, and they
usually go home with a completed piece. We call the class "A Taste of
Tole" and it is Lots of Fun!
