HOOT
Spotlights... Diane Eyestone
2011 HOOT
President
Back
in 1982, I was working
for Louise Scaife at her craft shop in
Tiffin, Ohio. Louise is a fantastic painter and painting was
an
important part of her shop. I took painting lessons from
every
teacher she had and loved it. One day Louise said that
she
knew of an organization that I would really like. She brought
me
to my first chapter meeting at HOOT and a love affair was
born.
I traveled from Upper
Sandusky for six years to attend HOOT meetings
and conventions to learn as much as I could about
painting.
During that time I was a monitor at convention and eventually was asked
to be exhibit hall chair for the "Sail Away"
convention. I
moved to Columbus so it was a lot more convenient to attend HOOT
meetings. In 1989, I chaired the "Festival of Trees".
Sadly, because of personal finances, I had to drop out of
HOOT.
However, in 1999, I was able to rejoin and rekindle my love for HOOT
and painting. I have painted with my teacher, Susan Vivoli, for the
past ten years. I also started traveling to California to attend the
color theory workshops with Barb Watson. What a great
learning
experience that was!
I have submitted paintings three times to the Certification Committee
of SDP. Even though I have not passed, the knowledge I gained from each
submission made my efforts well worth it.
Since joining HOOT, I have served as Corresponding Secretary
for two terms, Recording
Secretary for four terms and I am beginning a third term as President.
Personally, I am retiring from my job as Service Director/Cashier at
Kroger after almost 20 years. I live with my two cats in a
small
house near German Village and am looking forward to spending more time
with my seven grandchildren. With my retirement, I am also looking
forward to being able to paint more.
