HOOT Spotlights... Cathy Montgomery

HOOT's Facebook Administrator

Janice Arnold

Cathy first started painting when she saw a display at a library in Illinois. She has moved several times because of her husband’s work and one of the first things she did was call the Society of Decorative Painters (SDP) and ask which chapters were located in the State she was moving to. She has lived in California, Illinois, New Jersey, and Ohio and has been a member of Windy Brushes of Northern Illinois, New Jersey Goldfinch Chapter and Pocono Painters (Pennsylvania). She became a Heart of Ohio Tole member while attending her first Heart of Ohio Tole Convention before moving to Ohio. She’s been a HOOT member ever since and has attended every HOOT Convention since joining the Chapter in 1995.  Recently, her favorite medium is watercolor.

Cathy has held several offices as a HOOT member. Elected positions for the HOOT Board are First Vice President, and Treasurer. She has also held several appointed offices on the Board. For the Chapter’s Convention Committee, she has worked at the office for several years in data entry inputting convention registrations, class sales, and receipts for the Convention Treasurer. She has served as an Assistant Monitor Chair, volunteered with Convention Exhibit Hall ticket sales, Exhibit Hall and a number of other Committees. She has sent hundreds of emails to Convention attendees regarding classes.

Her career field was Human Resources and she graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management and worked in that field for Baxter Healthcare. She was also a Human Resources Manager and Diversity Manager for Parker Hannifin. In recent years she worked as a contract employee for several large corporations where she was able to gain additional knowledge about computers and different software programs...and keep an eye on her three sons when they were home for the summer.

Cathy enjoys keeping up as much as possible with technology and she keeps the Facebook page for the chapter. A favorite for her is  taking computer classes, that is when she’s not taking painting classes. She has taken a couple of Facebook classes as well. We have many friends on HOOT’s Facebook account who are from all over the world with the common love of painting. It truly is a small world!

She loves to travel, speaks Dutch as a second language since she was born in The Netherlands (Holland), has recently retired and wants to take more time to paint, especially in watercolor as well as keep up with the computer classes and perhaps learn a couple of new languages.
